The smart town of Vilamoura has become one of the best equipped resorts on the Algarve, and is one of the "golden triangle", along with Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Logo.

Famous for golf, other attractions include the riding schools, casino, night clubs, watersports, big-game fishing and fine sandy beaches. Sailors are well provided for in its attractive marina, with capacity for 1,000 yachts, and many bars and restaurants along the promenade.

Although Vilamoura is stylish and modern, the old Algarve is not far away. In fact, close to the modern marina are the remains of an old Roman settlement, and nearby is the old Moorish fishing village of Quarteira with pleasant bars on its attractive beach.
